The sun is high and the temperature grows. It’s the dog days of summer in Trego County and the perfect time to cool off at the WaKeeney Water Park!
When I was a kid my summer was spent at the pool. It was a large rectangular one back then with a low, bouncy diving board and the tall “Tower” that only the bravest would jump from. Today’s visitors will find a much-updated watery playground that offers many different places to find fun in the sun.
Along with a new diving board, two water slides deliver swimmers into the deep end and fountains shoot arcs of water at the edge of a zero-depth, beach-like entry. Beach umbrellas cast shade over the shallow areas and lap lanes are ready when you want to race through the water. But watch out above for our resident parrot perched high on the dunking bucket or he’ll surprise you with a drenching from above.
Our new water park has been a center for summer fun in our town since 2007. With an easily accessible bathhouse and an on-site concession stand, it’s the perfect place for everyone to catch the last days of summer.
A few steps away you’ll find more outdoor activities in the adjoining park where a picnic shelter, public restrooms and two playgrounds geared to different age groups are waiting to be explored.
Get the most of out these dog days of summer with a dip in the pool at the WaKeeney Water Park! It’s open daily until August 21st from 1-5pm throughout the week, with night swims on Tuesday and Thursday from 6-8pm.
