When you’re in WaKeeney and you hear the sound of rolling thunder you might look towards the sky. Well, don’t bother, because it’ll more likely be the roar of the crowd and the gunning of engines at the WaKeeney Speedway!
Located at the Trego County Fairgrounds, this 3/8-mile, semi-banked dirt track sparks to life with races held throughout the summer. Five categories claim the track as their own in thrilling races and heart stopping action that brings out fans from across Northwest Kansas and beyond. Big Wing 305, Hobby, Stock, Sport Compact, and Crazy Cruisers drivers compete for trophies, as well as bragging rights on one of the most fun racing venues on the Great Plains.
Start your summer with two days of racing this Memorial Day weekend when the track hosts a double feature of racing action on May 29th and 30th. After several recent cancellations due to rain and a three-week break in the DCRP Sprint Series program, we’re expecting a great turnout for that series and the URSS Rebel series drivers, as well. Throughout the next four months our track will also be hosting URSS/IMCA Sprint Cars, Stocks, Hobbies, Sport Compacts, and the Crazy Cruisers.
Racers arrive in the pits at 3pm, and the gates for general admission seating opens at 5pm inside Trego County Fairground’s historic grandstand. At 6:30pm the checkered flag will wave, tires will spin, and dirt will fly, starting the races that have thrilled us for decades.
