With a combined forty years of time spent creating America’s classic dining menu, Jason Hafliger and Chet Blender know exactly what they’re doing in a kitchen. Now, that they are the masters of their own kitchen and they are using their insider secrets to create mouth-watering food in one of WaKeeney’s most unique buildings.
The A-frame building at 233 S 1st Street has always been a restaurant with a variety of owners who brought their own unique touches to its menus, whether it be classic American, Chinese, or the local specialties that you can’t find anywhere else. As for Jake and Chet’s, they make the food they love most. Satisfying, great tasting meals with love as the secret ingredient.
Jake and Chet’s menu includes an all day breakfast and standard diner style entrees, (4-piece Chicken Dinner, $11.95), regional favorites (Whole Catfish, $11.50), and a line-up of nine different burgers, including the Cattleman Deluxe, a hamburger piled with ham and Swiss and served up on a toasted bun. Fresh from the oven bread, rolls, and pies complete the meal, but don’t forget the ice cream!
Jake and Chet’s host events throughout the week, both in the restaurant and behind it in the Sundowner Lounge. They love seeing people having a great time at their restaurant and enjoying the food, and they often will have themed buffets devoted to specific types of cuisine, like the locals’ favorite; Volga German. Or, they just might be featuring the talents of a guest chef’s like previous owner who they welcomed back one evening to turn out the Chinese dishes that had been favorites on her menu.
This Valentine’s Day make plans to take your sweetie to Jake and Chet’s, just three blocks north of I-70 off Exit #127. A “Couples Special” will be on the menu that will be well-seasoned with the love both chefs have for great tasting food!
