Trego County Turns Red, Yellow, and Orange for Fall

Cool breezes and frosty mornings are right around the corner, and sometime very soon Trego County will wake up to find our leafy, green trees have suddenly changed to beautiful shades of red, yellow, and orange. If you want to experience the changing seasons up close head out to one of WaKeeney’s beautiful city parks to play, relax, or just enjoy the waning days of Fall.

Eisenhower Park Eisenhower Park

Named for the president who brought I-70 to WaKeeney’s doorstep, this park features a restored F-14 Tomcat Fighter Jet. It is a monument to military veterans entombed at the local Kansas Veterans’ Cemetery and is just one of several monuments to members of the armed forces of Kansas found in WaKeeney.

Get a group together and head to Scout Park to play a challenging round of Frisbee golf. Mapped out around the trees and across the creek, you’ll find your competitive spirit tested when you tackle the Scout Park’s course.

Trego - Swimming Pool Park

Swimming Pool Park

WaKeeney’s Swimming Pool Park is the perfect place for families to enjoy any number of outdoor activities. Recently revamped play areas create safe places for older kids to tackle jungle gyms and our very popular rock climbing wall, while smaller tikes play in well-protected bordered areas. A new shaded picnic area with lots of tables and bathroom facilities are on-site so you can bring a lunch and spend the day enjoying the great outdoors with your kids. A new sand volleyball court has been added and you can even keep the party going after dark at our new lighted basketball court, where pick up games are happening all the time.

Trego County Courthouse Square

As the community gathering place, Trego County Courthouse Square has hosted Easter egg hunts, street fairs, dances, and, of course, the annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony. Horseshoe pits are located on the southeastern corner of the park and you can pick up the equipment inside the courthouse.
